The fourth principle of faith is the belief that the Creator of the universe is “first and last,” meaning that He is an indivisible and eternal unity.

Ani ma’amim be’emunah sh’leimah, she-haborei yitbarakh sh’mo,
hu rishon vehu acharon.

“I believe with complete faith that the Creator, blessed be His Name, is the First and the Last.”

Maimonides explains, “The fourth principle involves the absolute eternity of the One. Nothing else shares God's eternal quality.”
