The Hebrew word of the week is yalad, meaning to bear, beget, or bring forth. Two derivatives of this word occur in the first verse of parashat Toldot:

I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee. (Psalm 2:7)

For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace (Isa 9:6).

Note: Yalad (יָלַד) is generally used to a woman who gives birth to a child, the birthing process, etc., though by extension the word is applied to the father as well. The Hebrew verb harah (הָרָה) is used to refer to conception or the gestation process. The two verbs are used together in Gen 21:2: "And Sarah conceived and bore (וַתַּהַר וַתֵּלֶד) Abraham a son in his old age at the time of which God had spoken to him."
