Should we always obey the government?

Hi there. I've been taught that christians have a duty to always obey the government, based on Romans chapter 13. What do you say about this? thanks

Shalom. Romans 13 was never intended to teach that we are to blindly obey the government without using godly discernment and consulting the higher law of God... Indeed we are to obey God rather than man if there ever is a conflict (Acts 5:29). The positive law (legal talk of politicians) always takes a backseat to both the Divine Law of God, the "natural law" of reason, and the power of truth... We are to pray for our governments so that we can be left alone, as is taught in 1 Timothy 2:2. Moreover, in the United States at least, "We the People" are the authority to be respected, that is, the will of the people expressed through a Constitutional Republic, not the will of a king or Caesar...
