Wasn't Luke a Gentile, not a Jew?

Hello. You make the quote below on your page titled Israel And The Church.

Historically understood, the ekklesia mentioned in the New Testament was founded by a Torah observant Jew and began with the Jewish people (Gal 4:4; Rom 15:8). The first followers of Jesus (Yeshua) were all Jews, as were all the apostles and writers of the New Testament. The "church" was therefore born among the Jewish people in Jerusalem.

As far as I can gather from all my references Luke was not Jewish but of Greek descent. Below your quote claims they were all Jewish. Oversight, or am I missing something ?

Blessings, Clive

It is most likely that he was a Levite, quite familiar with the Temple and its operation. For more on this question, see Dr. Thomas McCall's article here: http://www.levitt.com/essays/luke
