Yes, it's one thing to profess faith in the LORD, and quite another to authentically live according to your profession. This is essentially the sin of hypocrisy.... I do believe, however, that Yeshua's words were addressed to those who trusted that their religious observances were sufficient to warrant for them a place in the world to come. God wants the heart of the person to surrender to Him, not to put on a show or offer up "lip service." Yeshua's fiercest words were directed to "camel swallowing professors of the Torah" (e.g., Matt. 23:13-29), not to people who were broken and in need of God's comfort (Isa. 42:3).
